OUACHITA SCORES 26 UNANSWERED POINTS

The Natchitoches Chiefs dropped their District 2-5A opener Friday night on the road 54-35 to the Ouachita Lions. The Chiefs dropped to 2-4. The Lions improved to 4-2. The Chiefs missed several scoring opportunities in the first quarter driving inside the Lions 30-yard line three times. The Chiefs turned it over on downs twice and fumbled. Ouachita struck first on a 49 yard touchdown run by Devion Warren with 7:40 left in the first quarter. They added another score when the Chiefs fumbled inside the Lions 30. Ouachita responded with a 12-yard by Dylan Roberts making it 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Chiefs got a big on special teams early in the second quarter. The Lions had a bad snap on a punt which was then blocked by NCHS’s Taylor Hudson. he returned it 8 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 14-7. The Lions immediately responded with a scoring drive capped off by an 18-yard touchdown run by Warren making it 21-7. The Chiefs kept fighting. Midway through the second quarter, Cole Kendrick connected with Tony Preylo for a 32-yard touchdown reception trimming the Lions lead to 21-14. The Lions wasted little time responding as Warren scored again, this time on a 20-yard run. Ouachita led 27-14 at halftime. The Chiefs opened the second half with some trickery. They recovered an onside kick which seemed to swing the momentum in the their favor momentarily. They were unable to capitalize but down a punt inside the Lions’ 6-yard line. But the Lions offense was too much. They drove 94 yards capped off by a 6-yard touchdown run by Warren making it 34-14. The Lions scored on their next two possessions to pull out to a commanding 47-14 lead scoring 26 unanswered points. The Chiefs, however, refused to quit. They scored two quick touchdowns in the fourth quarter on two touchdown runs by Tre’ Solitaire of 14 and 6 yards making it 47-28. The Lions added another score on a 4-yard run by Warren to push it to 54-28. The Chiefs had one more big play in them. Kendrick connected with Preylo again, this time for a 61-yard touchdown pass with 4:37 left but time ran out on the Chiefs as they dropped their second straight game to the Lions. Kendrick threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs look to bounce back next week when the hit the road for the third straight game against the West Monroe Rebels.
