Central completes shutout

CENTRAL COMPLETES SHUTOUT

The host Maroons made quick work of Urbana on Saturday morning in the resumption of their suspended Big 12 game, with Central adding a touchdown apiece in the third and fourth quarters after bolting to a 35-0 halftime lead on Friday night before inclement weather intervened. Josh Parker rushed for a game-high 133 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, Matt Brown added 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries and Bradley Dee contributed 51 rushing yards and two touchdowns on six carries for the Maroons, who got an early leg up on the Wright Street Trophy with the victory. “It’s certainly very nice to know that we have multiple weapons (in the running game), and it’s difficult to defend, I would assume, because you can’t just bank on one guy to really overplay,” Central coach Nate Albaugh said. “We have enough to keep you honest all around.” Jamin Carter (76 rushing yards on 15 carries) and Raekwon Caldwell (53 rushing yards on 10 carries) led Urbana (1-3), but Central’s defense remained stingy and recorded the program’s first shutout since 2011. “We were able to have success because our young men bought into the idea that they have responsibilities, and they were going to trust their teammates to do their responsibilities,” Albaugh said, “so we were just going to make fewer mistakes.”
