GROVE — Tahlequah wrestling was on the road to Grove to face the Ridgerunners on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the night wasn’t as easy as expected, but it was definitely filled with excitement. Andrew Roach (106) started the night off against Hayden Pennington, even though Roach defended himself well he still lost 0-3. Tahlequah gave up a forfeit in the 113 category, putting the Tiger down by 6. Jakob Lyons (120) faced Dalton Jones and won by fall in the second round, getting his 6 to tie the score up 6-6. Ivan Sanchez (126) and Christian Najar (138) both lost by fall, Carson Ferguson (132) lost by decision 2-5 to Seth Willis putting the Tigers down 18-6. Brett Black (145) got his 6 by pinning his opponent Kai Sarwinski. Garrett Medlock’s (152) match against Brendan Hendanez was close with Medlock winning by decision 16-15. Angel Quezada (160) won by decision 8-2. Both Tyler Payne (170) and Isaac Strain won their matches by fall giving the Tigers the lead 30-24. Ryan Hainziger and Blake Corn both lost by fall, ultimately giving Grove the lead 30-36. Leaving it up to Brandon Davis to hopefully get his six. Davis did win but not the way the Tigers had hoped. Davis won by decision 2-0. The night ended with the Tiger down 33-36. “We lost a close Dual with a tough team,” stated Tahlequah head coach Travis Kirby. “We weren’t consistent throughout our lineup as far as having some fight in us. Win or lose I want guys that will leave everything on the mat. We didn’t have that out of everyone tonight. But on the other hand we are a very young team. Sooner or later it will click for us.” Tahlequah faces Sequoyah Thursday night for the Tigers’ Senior Night. The team is also raffling off a handmade quilt made by Tonia Weavel during the event. Tickets can still be purchased at the door before the dual starts at 6 p.m.
