MCDONALD COUNTY FALLS TO GROVE

ANDERSON — The McDonald County Mustangs fell to the Grove Ridgerunners 54-21 on Thursday in this dual between Missouri and Oklahoma schools. McDonald County’s three returning state medalists, of course, all prevailed in their matches — Oscar Ortiz (120 pounds) pinned Jaedale Whitlock with just 25 seconds remaining in the third period, Jakob Gerow (126) earned a 8-1 decision against Gage Gates, and Bronnie Kinser (285) won a 10-3 decision against Dawson Tanner. Outside McDonald County’s big three, however, the Mustangs earned nine more points with a decision for Christian Davidson (113) and a pin for Jack Teague (152). Davidson won 6-1 against Haven Pennington and Teague brought down Wesley Downing in a mere 38 seconds. Grove maximized points with eight wins by pin and one forfeit, six points each for that grand total of 54. Riley Combs (106) pinned Eh Doh Say in 3:34, Seth Willis (132) pinned Jaw Di in 3:13, Caiden Wyatt (138) pinned Jordan Meadow in 57 seconds, Kai Sarwinski (145) pinned Marshall Brock in 2:00, Brendan Hernandez (160) pinned Kevin Sackryas in 3:47, Dalton Henderson (182) pinned Wilson Menas in 2:15, Cameron Haling (195) pinned Rendon Lane in 4:37, and Skylar Hernandez (220) pinned Brandon Andrew in 1:16. Cole Buckholtz won by forfeit at 170. McDonald County returns to action December 28-29 in the Springfield Holiday Tournament hosted by Parkview High.
