TULSA – Grove senior Michaela Werner dominated the first cross country meet of the year for the Ridgerunners, pulling away from a field of the area’s top Class 5A and 6A runners to win the girls’ 3200-meter run by 41 seconds Friday.
Werner finished in a time of 12:21 despite temperatures right around 100 degrees for the 3:30 p.m. start. Owasso’s Hailey Geissler finished second in 13:02.
Werner’s individual win led the Lady Ridgerunners to a seventh place finish in the team standings. Owasso won the girls team title with 32points, followed by Bishop Kelley with 37 points. Both teams had four runners finish in the top-10.
Other finishers for Grove were Paige Stanphill (37th, 15:37), Josie Eubanks (43rd, 15:52), Carleigh Johnson (69th, 17:54), Lily Jeffries (75th, 18:41) and Kalie Hammock (83rd, 20:11).
The Ridgerunners had three runners finish in the top-40 in the boys 5,000-meter race, finishing in eighth place out of 15 teams. Senior Derek Pigsley led the way for Grove with a 20th place finish in a time of 19:09. Deacon Kraft finished 36th in a time of 20:08 and Jake Ingle was 39th in 20:17.
Other finishers for Grove were Josh Poole (71st, 21:53) and Gideon Carper (84th, 23:54).
Stillwater’s Zac Porterfield won the individual title with a time of 17:32, leading the Pioneers to the team title. Coweta finished second.
Grove will run again on Thursday at Owasso.
