PRYOR – After qualifying for the 5A state golf championships for the first time in school history last season, the Grove Lady Ridgerunners are now making it a habit.
Battling cold, rainy conditions, the Lady Ridgerunners squeaked out a sixth place finish out of 16 teams at the East regional held at Pryor Creek Golf Club on Tuesday, grabbing the final qualifying slot for next week’s state tournament at Dornick Hills Golf Club in Ardmore.
Karah Bassett led the Lady Ridgerunners with a round of 91 with Jessica Walker scoring 107 and Gabi Fields shooting a round of 109, but the sixth and final team spot wasn’t decided until Kaitlynn Smith turned in a score of 107, enabling Grove to grab the final qualifying spot with a team score of 414, 14 shots ahead of seventh place Collinsville.
Bishop McGuiness of Oklahoma City won the team title with a score of 360, two shots ahead of Durant. Pryor and Coweta tied for third at 404, while Claremore was fifth with a score of 411.
Alexis Sadeghu of McGuiness won the individual title with a round of 78.
The 5A girls state golf championship is scheduled for May 1 and 2 in Ardmore.
