WAGONER – Michaela Werner ran circles around the field in the girls’ 3200 meters during Friday’s track at Wagoner.
The defending 5A state champion in the event broke her own school record again with a time 11:25.41, lapping the field in the 12-team event. Werner also finished first in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:36.70, powering the Lady Ridgerunners to a fourth place team finish.
Werner’s time in the 3200 is the best in 5A this season, according to www.ohstrack.com.
;The Lady Ridgerunners also got a gold medal from Braleigh Bechtol in the pole vault, as she cleared 10-0 to win the event over a pair of Shawnee vaulters. Teammate Lily Jeffries finished fifth in the event.
Grove also got a second place finish in the 3200 relay as well as the high jump, where Emilee Iverson cleared 5-2 to finish two inches behind Gladney of Roland.
The Lady Ridgerunners’ other two medals came in the 800, where Ashleigh Tramel finished third and Josie Eubanks sixth.
The boys team also finished fourth in the standings, getting first place finishes from Javier Lara in the 800 meters (2:03.11) and Ryan Wheatley in the 400 (49.43). Wheatley’s time is the second fastest in 5A this season.
The senior also picked up a second place finish in the 1600, where teammate Derek Pigsley finished third.
The Ridgerunners also picked up a second place finish in the 3200 relay.
In field events Grove got a second place finish from Rocky Jeffries in the discus, a third place finish from John Tune in the pole vault, and a fourth place finish from Will Clark in the shot put.
Shawnee won the girls team title with 169 points, with Glenpool a distant second and Vinita third. Coweta and Glenpool tied for first in the boys standings with 102.75 points apiece. Wagoner finished third.
Grove track’s next meet will be at Oologah on Friday.
