Grove’s Michaela Werner picked up right where she left off in May, as the defending state 5A champion in the 3200 meters won the event in the Ridgerunners’ season-opening meet at Owasso on Friday.
Werner finished in 11:44.67, nearly eight seconds ahead of Abby Hoover of Sapulpa.
Braleigh Bechtol also brought home a silver medal in the pole vault, clearing 9-6 and finishing four inches behind Christina Lookout of Broken Arrow.
The Lady Ridgerunners also got a sixth place finish from Lacey Records in the discus and a fifth place finish in the 3200-meter relay. The Grove girls finished sixth as a team out of a 15-team field made up mostly of 6A schools.
On the boys’ side the Ridgerunners picked up four medals and an eighth-place finish. Rocky Jeffries finished third in the shot put while Ryan Wheatley finished fourth in the 400 meters and Matt Jeffries finished fifth in the pole vault. Grove also got a fourth place finished in the 3200-meter relay.
Grove’s next track meet will be at Pryor on Tuesday.
