OOLOGAH – With wins in multiple relay events, both Grove track teams finished second at the Verdigris Valley Conference Championships held at Oologah High School on Saturday.
The Ridgerunners had wins in the 1600 and 3200 relays and also got an individual win in the 400 meters from Ryan Wheatley to total 113 points, 41 points behind champion Catoosa.
Jay’s Taylor Foster finished first in the high jump with a height of 5-10, while also adding a fifth place finish in the long jump.
The Lady Ridgerunners got another pair of wins from Michaela Werner in the 1600 and 3200 while also getting wins in the 800 and 3200 relays.
Werner ran season bests in both of her wins, finishing the 1600 in 5:34 and the 3200 in 11:19.77.
Braleigh Bechtol matched her school record with a height of 10-6 in the pole vault to finish first ahead of teammate Lily Jeffries, while Emilee Iverson won the high jump with a height of 5-2.
The Grove girls also finished second in the 400 and 1600 relays, while Erin Swartz added a third place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Ashleigh Tramel finished with a pair of medals, a second place finish in the 800 and a fourth place finish in the 400, while Lexi Land and Josie Eubanks finished third and fourth in the 800.
Ashley Wilkes added a pair of medals for the Jay Lady Bulldogs with a second in the 400 and a fifth place finish in the 200.
Vinita won the girls team title with 214.5 points, with Grove second at 141. Catoosa and Miami tied for third with 66 points each.
Grove track will travel to Collinsville on Friday.
