A four-run first inning set the tone for the Pryor Lady Tigers Monday evening, as they scored in four of their six at-bats in an 8-1 win over Grove in a District 5A-3 contest.
The Lady Tigers (13-11 overall, 5-5 in District 5A-3) took advantage of 9 walks issued by Grove pitching, including four in the opening frame. A bases-loaded walk forced in the first run of the game before Bailee Hillman drove in a pair with a single to centerfield. Another run scored on a wild pitch before the inning ended.
The Lady Red (6-25, 1-10) got a leadoff double from Taylor Rupe to start the game and two runners on with one out in the second but couldn’t get a run home until the fifth when Rupe hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield with the bases loaded to drive in Gabi Fields.
Pryor starting pitcher Hunter Gilstrap allowed five hits and a walk while striking out three in the win. The Lady Tigers would use an error, a wild pitch, a passed ball and an infield single to get a run home in the bottom of the third. Maleya Belden led off the fourth with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Pryor used three hits and a Grove error to get two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin.
Fields finished with two hits to lead the Lady Red, who also lost to Claremore 8-3 on Tuesday.
