MAROONS PUT OFFENSE ON DISPLAY

MARION — When you start the season with a win, the postgame sandwiches taste a little bit better. And those three-hour rides back home, they’re not so bad either. Champaign Central coach Nate Albaugh enjoyed his postgame meal on a festive bus following his Maroons’ 49-21 win against Marion on Friday night. “Yeah, it’s a little easier when you win,” Albaugh said. The Maroons started their season on a high note thanks to a balanced rushing attack that saw four players rush for at least 63 yards. Brad Dee led the way with 116 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. Josh Parker added 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Matt Brown (79) yards and Marshall Thompson (63) also got in on the fun. “We’ve got some depth at the running back position,” Albaugh said. “When we had some kids cramping, we had some other kids to put in there, good kids, so we weren’t losing anything offensively when guys went out.” Central quarterback Walker Stillman hooked up with Jake Beasley (three receptions, 127 yards receiving) for a pair of touchdown passes.
