CHIEFS TORCH TIOTA WITH 3S

TIOGA — After falling in the City of Lights Tournament for its first loss, Tioga had revenge on the mind against Natchitoches Central. However, the Chiefs were having none of it. NCHS used the 3-point arc to its advantage to gain a 74-49 win at The Reservation Friday. "I just thought we came out with more focused effort," Chiefs coach Micah Coleman said. "The other night, we played hard and it was a little bit chaotic, but tonight we were really focused. Every guy that stepped out on the floor really bought into his job defensively. We were able to do a really good job of containing them after the first quarter." NCHS made 10 threes in the contest, while successfully keeping the Indians out of the paint. Holding a 36-27 advantage at halftime, the Chiefs pulled away in the third quarter — limiting Tioga to nine points. "In the first quarter, they had their way with us a little bit," Coleman said. "But the last three quarters, I thought we really did a good job of staying disciplined defensively in our lanes and staying down and not getting split. We did a whole lot better job tonight finishing shots around the rim. Wednesday night, we had trouble getting that ball to fall in. Tonight, we finished shots and that's what tough teams are supposed to do." NCHS (5-2) got good ball play from its guards as sophomore Brian White scored 24 points and junior Trey Reed made five 3-pointers en route to adding 15 points. Tioga (6-4) was led by Will Rue and Caleb Hebert, who each scored 11 points. De'Mon Ford added 10 points. Both teams will have a quick turnaround against tough opponents to conclude the McDonald's Invitational Saturday. The Indians host Rapides at 4:30 p.m., while the Chiefs take on Leesville in the following game.
