LIBERTY FIELD HOCKEY ADVANCES IN SCT

Sixty minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtimes wasn’t enough to decide the field hockey Shore Conference Tournament first round game between Jackson Liberty and Jackson Memorial. The squads settled it via penalty strokes on Tuesday afternoon, after each team scored a goal in the first half. No. 11 seed Jackson Liberty eventually won the penalty stroke round, 3-1, and subsequently won the game against No. 6 seed Jackson Memorial to advance to Thursday’s SCT quarterfinals. Jackson Memorial (12-3-1) got a goal from Jenny McNamara as Amanda Miller assisted on the play in the first half and Jackson Liberty (13-4) responded with Tayler Martini’s goal in the first half via a Tatiana Wypych pass. The game stayed that way through the second half and the two 10-minute overtimes. Jackson Liberty won the penalty stroke round 3-1 as Tatiana Wypych, Gillian Vallaster and Jessica Cacoso made penalty strokes for the Lions while Jackson Memorial’s Jill McGuinness made a penalty stroke in that round. Jackson Liberty’s Katie Koehler made one save and Jackson Memorial’s Morgan Novak made five saves. Jackson Liberty advanced to the SCT quarterfinals for the first time in school history, according to coach Ashley Forsyth. The Lions will play in Thursday’s SCT quarterfinals at No. 3 seed Shore Regional.
