Ireton dumps rival in homecoming win, 21-14

IRETON DUMPS RIVAL IN HOMECOMING WIN, 21-14

Bishop Ireton rode a dominating defensive performance and three field goals from senior David Cooper to win on homecoming, 21-14 over neighboring St Stephens & St Agnes Saturday. The defense stymied the Saints running game all day and the visitors only points came in the game's final six minutes when a Max Gallahan 15 yard run and a 48-yard TD pass to Matt Fisher made the final minutes nerve-wracking for the Ireton faithful. Perris Jones rushed for a 2-yard TD and later tossed a short pass to senior Ryan Verducci for the Cardinals' touchdowns, but a blocked PAT and unsuccessful 2-point try left the Cardinals short. Cooper stayed hot in the kicking department, drilling field goals of 25, 26, and 47 yards for Bishop Ireton (4-1), giving the Cardinals a 15-0 halftime advantage. St Stephens fell to 3-2 on the year. Next up for Ireton is a trip to Oakton to face a 3-1 Flint Hill squad, fresh off a 21-0 shutout of St Albans. Kickoff is 2pm in Oakton.
